Plans and Projects
The International Society for Philosophers was launched in March 2002, with the aim of bringing together students and teachers of philosophy, and amateur philosophers from all over the world.
We will be working in partnership with The Philosophical Society of England in the promotion of philosophy for all, and in particular emphasizing its practical benefits.
One of the main tasks of the International Society is overseeing the Pathways to Philosophy distance learning programs, and the Associate and Fellow awards. This includes responsibility for quality assurance, in order to maintain the quality of the Pathways courses. In addition, the Society will be responsible for recruiting mentors and engaging the services suitably qualified examiners.
We are planning a series of online conferences, on different philosophical themes, open to members of the International Society for Philosophers as well as to members of the Philosophical Society of England.
We shall also be starting an e-mail discussion list, to give members the opportunity to raise questions of topical concern, ask for help and advice with their philosophical studies, or find other members who share their interests.
Other plans include:
* an opt-in database of members contact details and philosophical interests which can be accessed using a username and password
* Informal day symposiums where members can meet face to face to talk about special topics in philosophy
* A campaign to raise the level awareness of philosophy amongst the general public
* A campaign promoting philosophy in schools
Look out for regular updates on the activities of the International Society for Philosophers in our e-mail newsletter Philosophy Pathways. Meanwhile, I would be interested to hear your thoughts about these initiatives or any other ideas for projects that you may have. If you have a suggestion to make, e-mail Geoffrey Klempner at klempner@fastmail.net.
